In this episode of Travel Talk, we go aboard the Allure of the Seas, where we dive into the thrilling world of one of Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class ships. Join us as we recount our recent adventure on this magnificent vessel, exploring everything from its jaw-dropping stats to its myriad onboard activities and dining options. From zip lining to Broadway-caliber shows, from gourmet dining experiences to kids’ club adventures, we’ll cover it all. So whether you’re a seasoned cruiser or a first-time explorer, come along as we uncover the allure of the Allure of the Seas.
Ship Overview
Let’s start with some general stats about the ship. Allure of the Seas is one of six Oasis Class Ships from Royal Caribbean. This is currently the second largest class of ship with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. The new Icon class ships are larger. These ships are approximately 220,000 tons, have 18 decks, and can accommodate about 5,400 guests onboard.
The ship was built in 2010 and the 2020 amplification was canceled. It is currently scheduled to undergo the amplification in early 2025, which will add new water slides along with new and updated dining, bars, and lounges.
Onboard Activities
This ship has a lot of fun and activity onboard. There are several pools, flow riders, zip line, rock wall, mini golf course, sports courts, and an ice skating rink! There are options for everyone to enjoy, but if you are looking for adult areas you will find them too.
The Solarium is a great adult only area to relax and has its own food area. You will also enjoy the vitality spa and fitness center. For some “at sea” fun, you can try your luck in the casino.
You won’t be bored with lots of entertainment onboard. In the evenings, you can see Mama Mia, the Aquatheater show, the ice skating show, or Blue Planet (not all shows every night). You can also enjoy one of the many lounges with music, dancing, piano bars, and more. Some nights there is even a party in the promenade.
Dining Options
There are many included and specialty dining options onboard and certainly something for everyone. Let’s start with what’s included. You will never go hungry with all the included options. Although we love the dining room for breakfast and dinner, we are usually around the ship getting lunch from the Park Cafe or El Loco Fresh along with the main buffet, the Windjammer Marketplace. You will often find my kids getting a snack at the Boardwalk Doghouse or Sorrento’s Pizza. I mean, you have to have pizza every night before bed on a cruise (or maybe it’s just us).
If you are looking for something extra, you can grab lunch at Johnny Rockets or make reservations for lunch or dinner at one of the specialty restaurants. We highly recommend lunch at Chops Grille. It’s a great value! This ship has some Royal favorites like Izumi Sushi, Sabor Mexican, 150 Central Park, and Giovani’s Table to name a few. There is also a Coastal Kitchen on deck 17 for specific suite guests.
Just for Kids
The kids will love this ship too. My teenagers enjoyed everything we have talked about so far and for the 3-12 year olds, they will like the Adventure Ocean Youth Program. These supervised kids clubs give the adults time to relax and enjoy some adult time. Plus, the kids will enjoy special areas and activities designed just for them. Hey, it is their vacation too!
Outside of the kids club, they will enjoy the free carousel on the boardwalk, the arcade, sweets shop, and other activities planned around the ship for them to participate in.
Itineraries
Royal moves their ships around, but currently, Allure of the Seas is doing 3 and 4 night Bahamian cruises from Port Canaveral and then will be moving to Miami in July 2024 with the same itinerary. We went to Nassau, Bahamas and had a perfect day at CocoCay.
Thinking Allure of the Seas may be the perfect vacation for you? Maybe you love this ship, but want to do a longer itinerary. Reach out to your MMP agent and we can help you plan a memorable vacation on Allure of the Seas or one of the other Oasis Class ships available.
