Best Things to See and Do
The Acropolis and Parthenon – This famous site is located in Athens. It is perfect to include this on a pre cruise stay in Athens. This area has several ancient buildings including the Parthenon. Keep in mind if you prebook a tour you will want to make sure it includes the tickets to enter the attractions if that is what you want to do.
Santorini – This is one of the many Greek islands that you may want to visit. It is located in the Aegean Sea about 120 miles from the mainland. It is most recognized by the whilte buildings with blue roofs. Being an island some of the best things to do is get on the water. - Tzatziki – a Greek yogurt dip
- Horiatiki – a “Greek salad” of tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, green peppers, olives, and feta with olive oil and oregano
- Souvlaki – marinated chicken skewers
- Gyro – thin sliced, marinated meet with tzatziki, lettuce, tomatoes, in a pita
- Spanakopita – spinach and feta cheese filling in flake phyllo dough
- Loukoumades – deep fried dough balls soaked in honey syrup
Best Ways to Visit
Cruises
There are lots of cruise lines with stops in Greece. Here are a few we recommend
- Virgin Voyages – Starry Nights in Greece and Croatia is an awesome 10 night itinerary that leaves from Athens and includes amazing stops like Santorini, Mykonos, and Corfu. This is a great cruise line if you are looking for adults only travel. Sailings through June 2026
- Disney Cruise Line – 7-Night Mediterranean with Greek Isles Cruise from Civitavecchia (Rome) is usually available a few times a year in the summer. What a great way to take the kids to explore a new part of the world with some familiar fun and entertainment.
- Royal Caribbean – 7 night Greek Isles or Eastern Mediterranean itineraries are available on a couple ships throughout the summer. Some are round trip out of Athens and some start in Athens and end in Rome. These are great for multigenerational groups or families with teens.
Land
Another way to visit is to go on a “land” tour although it may include some flights or boats to visit other islands.
- Adventures by Disney – An amazing option for families and adults is the 10 Day Greece Adventure. The minimum age is 5 years old but it is recommended for ages 6 and up.
