Right before Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened at Hollywood Studios, we had the opportunity to experience it first hand and we have tips for you! It is an incredible, immersive experience. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Story
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the place where you will be in the middle of the action to live your own Star Wars story. You’ll also want to listen to our podcast about what to see, do and eat while exploring Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
You will be on the planet Batuu visiting the Black Spire Outpost. It is an infamous stop for traders, adventurers, and smugglers traveling around the the Outer Rim and Wild Space. Off the beaten path, this outpost has become a haven for the galaxy’s most colorful – and notorious- characters. Keep in mind this is not a place for autographs and photos with your favorite stars. At Galaxy’s Edge you may see some familiar faces and be able to grab a fast selfie but the storm troopers are patrolling and others like Chewbacca and Rey are trying to avoid them so they don’t want to draw attention to themselves.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Dining
While visiting the Black Spire Outpost you will definitely need to stop in for some refreshment at Oga’s Cantina. Musical entertainment is provided courtesy of RX-24, the former Star Speeder 3000 pilot droid we first met in Star Tours, who has re-envisioned himself as the cantina’s DJ. As quirky and talkative as ever, he’s still trying to do his best on the job. Listen to some unique music and taste the best drinks in the galaxy all while being surrounded by a colorful cast of characters. You never know what will happen at the cantina! Our favorite is a Fuzzy Tauntaun. It’s a fun drink that will have an unusual effect on your lips and tongue. There is also a meat and cheese platter not on the menu that is delicious and perfect for two people to share. Once you enter the Cantina you will be given a location but most likely won’t be a seat. You will be put at one of the bars or counters to stand. You have up to 45 min to enjoy your drinks.
Tip: You may find the longest lines at the Cantina so keep that in mind. Reservations are highly recommended at the Disney World Cantina
While visiting the outpost, you can also enjoy a meal at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo. Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs is the chef at this intergalactic “food truck”. Cookie’s food shuttle, now docked on the roof of the hangar bay, has lowered a series of pods into the hangar, carrying precious cargo – Chef Tuggs’ finest ingredients gathered from across the galaxy. Guests may choose to dine indoors in the hangar bay or outside in a shaded courtyard of this fast-casual restaurant. Meals include items such as the Ithorian Garden Loaf and The Smoked Kaadu Ribs (which are very yummy but a little spicy).
Other dining options include the Milk Stand, Ronto Roasters, and Kat Saka’s Kettle. You will want to enjoy the street market in the Black Spire Outpost and shop at the food stalls to try local delicacies too.
There are also special Coke products created just for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. I think these are soo cool. Please be careful about taking these home. If you want to we suggest making sure they are empty of all liquid and separate the bottles and the lids in your luggage so they are not together.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Attractions
There are two attractions in Galaxy’s Edge. The first is Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run which puts you behind the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy. Guests must be 38″ to enjoy this attraction. You may select a lightning lane for this attraction if you have purchased Genie+.
The second attraction is Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance that will put you in the middle of an epic battle between the Resistance and the First Order. Guests must be 40″ to ride this attraction. You can ride in the standby line or purchase an individual lightning lane. These can go quickly so be sure to get it first thing in the morning.
My favorite part of the land isn’t even an attraction but it is playing with the Play Disney Parks app. Be sure to have it ahead of time because this will help you as you become galactic travelers and live your own Star Wars story in a galaxy far, far away. Look for different mission to complete, codes to scan, and more. This will help you earn credits as well as define your character as aligned with the First Order, The Resistance, or maybe you are just a scoundrel.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Merchandise
Here is information on the new merchandise coming to Galaxy’s Edge on both coasts. Favorites included our adorable Porg, a Kowakian Monkey-Lizard with its iconic laugh, a Resistance Rank Badge set, a Wookie bag and a variety of other items.
“Most of these products have never been seen before by any of our fans,” Devon Figge of Merchandise Events at Walt Disney World Resort said. “They’ll see the same product no matter where the come – so, they can visit us on either coast and live their Star Wars story.”
Here are the locations you will want to visit. **(Reservations can be made ahead and are highly recommended for Savi’s Workshop and Droid Depot)
Savi’s Workshop** – Handbuilt Lightsabers – Guests come to the workshop to meet with the Gatherers – a secretive group of people who have dedicated their lives to restoring balance in the galaxy by passing on their knowledge of Jedi lore and the Force. The workshop Master guides guests to customize and build their own unique lightsabers, and instructs them on the ways of the Jedi. Keep in mind that on the Black Spire Outpost owning a light saber is illegal. This location is not well marked but if you look for the large blue flag on the wall it will help you find it. Just keep it hush hush if you are planning to visit.
Droid Depot** – Visitors to Mubo’s workshop can choose parts and construct their own individual astromech droids to accompany them on their journey, and then take them home with them. There are both B models (like BB-8) and R models (like R2D2)
First Order Cargo – A spaceport hangar bay serves as the temporary base and landing spot for the First Order. First Order officers have brought in crates of gear, uniforms and other supplies to win the hearts and minds of locals and visitors to Black Spire Outpost.
Resistance Supply – Resistance members and local sympathizers oversee a makeshift stall that supplies Resistance uniforms, pins, badges, hats, helmets, jackets, maps, tools, training supplies, food rations and other items.
There are also several market stalls which sell a variety of merchandise such as:
- Toydarian Toymaker (toys)
- Creature Stall (interesting critters that you can take home with you)
- Black Spire Outfitters (clothing)
- The Jewels of Bith (accessories and other trinkets to treasure)
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland
Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland is the same as Walt Disney World.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios
Be sure your have a park reservation for Hollywood Studios as is required to visit any Walt Disney World theme park. A theme park ticket and a park reservation is required. Hollywood Studios is a popular park so be sure to make your park reservation as soon as you book your stay or purchase your park tickets.
